My mum has been seeing Karen for her mobility issues. My mum was bed-bound since returning home from the hospital (as she couldn’t get any physio in hospital due to covid outbreak). After seeing Karen, my mum has been improving significantly and I am so happy that she can walk again! I highly recommend anyone to see Karen and her team.

Karen from HealthJoy came out to assess Dad for a new walker. Wow what a really nice girl. Karen was very thorough in her assessment and made Dad feel very at ease during the assessment process. Karen really knows her stuff. Thank you for the advice on what we can do to make life easier for Dad and to make life comfortable for him in his Autumn years.

The physio visit with Davy for my daughter far exceeded my expectations and filled me with trust and faith in his experience and ability. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and had exceptional communication skills. My daughter has developmental disability, mild cerebral palsy, and multiple sclerosis. She always felt tired and was inactive. But after seeing Davy, my daughter was becoming more motivated to do exercise, and able to walk for a longer distance. Thank you for the help from Davy and the staff in HealthJoy.

Bonus Tips for getting more out of your St Ives Physiotherapy session
Pain Relief Acceleration Tip #1: Come prepared

When you first meet with your St Ives Physio, be prepared with all the information that they will need: When your pain started, what led to you having surgery (if applicable), what pain relief measures you have already tried, what medications you are taking, and so on.

Pain Relief Acceleration Tip #2: Show up

Making appointments with HealthJoy St Ives Physiotherapy won’t do you any good if you don’t show up to us. Make physiotherapy a priority and be there for every appointment unless you are sick or have an emergency. How quickly you progress will depend partly on how regularly you attend your sessions and how committed you are to your treatment.

Pain Relief Acceleration Tip #3: Do your simple and easy homework

Most patients will need to do some little work on their own apart from their regular appointments. Your physio will prescribe exercises designed to improve muscle strength and flexibility – when performed regularly over time. If you don’t follow these directions, it can be impossible to tell why your symptoms aren’t improving or identify adjustments that your treatment plan may need.

Common mistakes people make if they don’t attend St Ives Physiotherapy
Body Destroying Mistake #1: Incorrectly stretching the wrong muscles

Sometimes the area you are getting the pain may not be the cause of the pain. For example, when you get pain in the arm, sometimes the pain is actually coming from the neck instead of the arm. That’s why it is useless for you to stretch your arm muscles.

Body Destroying Mistake #2: Incorrectly strengthening the wrong muscles

Sometimes for the area you are getting the pain, you should not strengthen it. For example, when you get the pain on your back, it may not be appropriate to strengthen the back muscles as this may further compress the spine and cause you more pain. Instead, you may need to strengthen the core muscles to increase the spinal stability that can reduce the back pain. Schedule an appointment with HealthJoy St Ives Physiotherapy to discover what is the best strengthening exercise for your condition.

Body Destroying Mistake #3: Prolonged rest that leads to longer recovery time and further damage

We understand that you would like to rest to prevent the pain from deteriorating. However, sometimes resting too much could result in further damage to your body. For instance, recent research has shown that prolonged bed rest is harmful to the recovery of lower back pain. Of course, we don’t suggest you run a marathon or do high-intensity exercise. Gentle movement as guided by HealthJoy St Ives Physiotherapist will help you achieve the best health outcome.

Body Destroying Mistake #4: Misunderstand temporarily no pain = full recovery

A lot of people have a misunderstanding that having no pain is equal to full recovery. Wrong! Take a sprained ankle for example. After 3 to 6 weeks of a sprained ankle, people may have no pain for a while and they think their ankle is fully recovered. However, as soon as they return to normal physical activity, they may sprain their ankle again. This is very common for people with ankle injury. And this condition is called chronic ankle instability, which is normally developed among people without proper rehabilitation after an ankle sprain. The take home message is: no pain isn’t necessarily equal to full recovery. It is wise to seek the advice from the Caring HealthJoy St Ives Physiotherapy team so that you will experience the peace of mind that your injury is fully recovered.

You have two options now
Option 1:

You try to guess what may be working on your pain. Try to do your own research and guess what methods may work to relieve your pain. Praying and hoping the pain may go away one day, while risking the injury getting worse and worse. Waste time, money, and energy!

Option 2:

Take action and schedule an appointment with HealthJoy St Ives Physiotherapy, and our physiotherapists will provide you with an exceptional therapy that will get rid of the debilitating pain so that you can take back control of your body and live a life on your own terms. It is important to remember that the discomfort is short term only and it is worthwhile for the long-term effect.
