Karen from HealthJoy came out to assess Dad for a new walker. Wow what a really nice girl. Karen was very thorough in her assessment and made Dad feel very at ease during the assessment process. Karen really knows her stuff. Thank you for the advice on what we can do to make life easier for Dad and to make life comfortable for him in his Autumn years.

The physio visit with Davy for my daughter far exceeded my expectations and filled me with trust and faith in his experience and ability. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and had exceptional communication skills. My daughter has developmental disability, mild cerebral palsy, and multiple sclerosis. She always felt tired and was inactive. But after seeing Davy, my daughter was becoming more motivated to do exercise, and able to walk for a longer distance. Thank you for the help from Davy and the staff in HealthJoy.

Bonus Tips for getting more out of your Pyrmont Physiotherapy session
Pain Relief Acceleration Tip #1: Come prepared

During your first consultation with your Pyrmont physiotherapist, make sure you are prepared to answer some simple questions that help us understand you more: when your pain started, what activities aggravated your pain, what measures you have taken to relieve the pain, what medications you have taken, what causes you to have surgery (if applicable), and so on.

Pain Relief Acceleration Tip #2: Show up

Making appointments with HealthJoy Pyrmont Physiotherapy only without showing up won’t help you get better. Put physiotherapy in your #1 priority and attend every scheduled appointment unless you are not feeling well or have an emergency. After helping over 13,000 people to achieve their health goal, we have discovered that the rate of recovery is dependent on how committed you are in attending your pain relief physio consultation and following the helpful advice given by your expert pyrmont physiotherapist.

Pain Relief Acceleration Tip #3: Do your easy-to-follow home exercise

In your consultation, we will show you how to do some easy home exercise that speeds up your recovery. It is all customised to your unique health condition. It is super easy to do, and you can do it anywhere!

Common harmful mistakes people make when they don’t attend Pyrmont Physiotherapy
Body Destroying Mistake #1: Incorrectly stretching the wrong muscles

In some cases, the area where you feel the pain might not be the area where the pain comes from. For instance, you may have the experience of feeling pain in your arm and you try to stretch the arm muscles but it doesn’t help. This is because the cause of the pain is actually from your neck instead of the arm.

Body Destroying Mistake #2: Incorrectly strengthening the wrong muscles

Some people may think that they have to strengthen the muscles around the area where they get the pain. In fact, this is not usually the case. For example, if you get low back pain, strengthening the back muscles might be harmful as it will cause further compression onto the spine and thus lead to more pain. On the other hand, you have to strengthen the core muscles to increase the stability of your spine, which can help to reduce your low back pain. Schedule an appointment with HealthJoy Pyrmont Physiotherapy to find out which strengthening exercise is the most suitable for you according to your unique health condition.

Body Destroying Mistake #3: Prolonged rest that leads to longer recovery time and further damage

Some people might think that rest can stop the pain from getting worse so they try to rest for a prolonged period of time. Yes, it is true that having a proper rest can help to reduce the pain. However, having a prolonged rest can result in further damage to the body. For example, there is a recent study that shows that prolonged bed rest can impede the recovery of low back pain. HealthJoy Pyrmont physiotherapist will be here to guide you with some gentle exercises to help you to relieve pain and improve your function.

Body Destroying Mistake #4: Misunderstand temporarily no pain = full recovery

Many people might think that having no pain is equivalent to full recovery. In fact, this is not always the case. For example, people with a sprained ankle might not experience pain after 3 to 6 weeks of their injury. They may think that they have fully recovered from the ankle sprain. Nevertheless, when they return to their normal activities e.g. return to sports or return to their physically-demanding work, they might easily sprain their ankle again. This condition is called chronic ankle instability. It is very common among people who previously have had ankle injury and did not have proper management after that. So it is important to note that having no pain is not equivalent to full recovery. Make an appointment with HealthJoy Pyrmont Physiotherapy now if you have any injury and we will guide you through your recovery and give you reassurance on when your injury is regarded as fully recovered.

You have two options now

The manual treatment that is provided might make you feel uncomfortable. (or give you discomfort) during the physiotherapy session. It should last for 1-2 days only. It is just like working out after a prolonged rest, you might experience some soreness afterwards but it won’t last long. This is regarded as a “good pain” as it is part of the recovery process. It is important to remember that the discomfort is short term only and it is worthwhile for the long-term effect. However, it is very crucial to let us know if you do feel any worsen in pain over the time.
Objective measurement will be conducted in each session and comparison will be made to your initial consultation to gauge your progress.

At the same time, please ensure that your physiotherapist does the same. Both of you can discuss the timeframe for the management plan and what goals to be achieved. It is common that at the beginning of your treatment, your visits will be more frequent and it will gradually reduce over time.
